Laboratory
Chase
County Community Hospital provides a full range of laboratory services
including coverage twenty-four hours, seven days a week. The clinical
laboratory is newly renovated to accommodate the growing volume of
testing services. We provide a wide range of hematology and chemistry
testing, blood banking and large majority of microbiology testing
internally.
The
laboratory has received equipment and training, through grants with
Nebraska Health and Human Services, to ensure Laboratory Preparedness
for Bioterrorism events.

Radiology
The hospital provides a full range of radiology services.
General radiography is provided 24 hours a day. In September 2005,
the
Chase
County
Community
Hospital
installed a new general radiography room, including a Computed Radiology
unit, making us the first small hospital to have this new technology.
The radiology department is now film less, utilizing digital
images, except for mammography procedures.

Also in 2005, CCCH purchased a new multi-slice C.A.T.
scanner and C-Arm unit. The
scanner allows the department to perform pulmonary embolism and bone
density examinations not possible with previous equipment.
The C-Arm unit allows for portable fluoroscopy exams especially
in surgery.

In October, the hospital purchased a new PAC’s system
with its own web server. X-ray
images are transmitted to our radiologists in
North Platte
for interpretation. With our
web server, physicians may view their patient’s exams from any
computer with internet capabilities.
This allows our visiting specialty physicians to view exams from
their own office, home, etc.

Mammography
Chase County Community Hospital’s
mammography department is certified by the American College of Radiology
and the FDA (Federal Food and Drug Administration). Our annual survey
demonstrates that high quality standards are continuously being met.
Mammograms are available 4 days a week by appointment.

Nuclear
Medicine uses radioactive substances to image the body and treat
disease. Nuclear medicine looks at both the physiology (functioning) and
the anatomy of the body in establishing diagnosis and treatment. Chase
County Community Hospital offers Nuclear Medicine services once a week.

through the physical therapy to treat and enhance the well being of
orthopedic and neurological patients. Patients receive a thorough
physical therapy evaluation from our highly trained licensed physical
therapists looking at his/her present level of activity/function and
limitations along with their symptoms to form a comprehensive plan of
care.
Our patients receive individualized
programs including:
Therapeutic exercise: to regain/build
strength and endurance, increase flexibility and mobility, improve
balance and coordination, and to combat chronic pain, progressing
towards independence with a home exercise program.
Modality treatments: to relieve pain,
reduce swelling, and improve circulation, including the use of heat,
ice, ultrasound, massage and electrical stimulation.
Our department is located in the Chase
County Clinic addition and is open Monday through Friday.

Cardiac Rehab
Cardiac rehabilitation at Chase County
Community Hospital provides education and monitored exercise therapy for
heart patients. If you are at risk of having a heart attack or if you
have had a heart attack, angina, heart surgery, balloon angioplasty or
other heart problems, Cardiac Rehabilitation is for you.
The program involves three phases. Phase I
is inpatient cardiac rehabilitation that patients complete during their
hospital stay. Phase II is a 6-12 week program in which the goal is to
build physical strength and stamina by attending one-hour exercise
sessions up to three times a week. Patients’ blood pressure, heart rate
and rhythm are monitored throughout each session as you exercise on
treadmills, stationary bicycles and other equipment. Phase III is an
individualized program for patients who have graduated form the Phase II
program. Participants in Phase III are more independent and require
less supervision. Success of our Phase II program has resulted in an
impressive number of patients continuing in the Phase II service. In
fact Cardiac Rehab has some patients who have been attending the
programs for over 5 years!
Cardiac Rehab sees five different groups of
patients, with 5-6 people in each group, three days a week.

Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapists evaluate, treat, and
care for patients with breathing or other cardiopulmonary disorders.
Respiratory therapists, assume primary responsibility for all
respiratory care therapeutic treatments and diagnostic procedures.
Respiratory
therapists treat all types of patients, ranging from premature infants
whose lungs are not fully developed to elderly people whose lungs are
diseased. Respiratory therapists provide temporary relief to patients
with chronic asthma or emphysema, as well as emergency care to patients
who are victims of a heart attack, stroke, drowning, or shock.

Sleep studies
The all-night sleep
study is frequently used by sleep physicians to evaluate adult patients
when they are sleeping. This laboratory test is extremely valuable for
diagnosing and treating many sleep disorders, including neurologic
disorders, movement disorders and breathing disorders at night. For
studying the quality of sleep, electrodes are applied to the scalp,
sides of the head and under the chin, chest and leg. This lets us
measure brain waves, heart rate, and eye movements. A sensor is placed
by the nose and mouth for measurement of airflow. Belts are placed
around the rib cage and abdomen for measurement of breathing movements.
A clip is placed on a finger for measurement of blood oxygen levels.
Other measurements may be done as required. There are no needles and no
pain.
